Calouste Gulbenkian Collection reference request
« on: March 20, 2022, 12:59:45 am »
Last year I purchased a tetrobol of Histiaea with the reference “Gulbenkian 510”. I believe this refers to ‘A Catalogue of the Calouste Gulbenkian Collection of Greek Coins: Greece to East. Part II’.

Unfortunately it does not appear this reference is available online. If anyone has a copy of this, could you post or message me an image of the 510 coin and accompanying description?

I’ll check my copy (which is at work) on Monday if no one gets to it today.  It is a really great collection

You might also search the online collection though I’m not sure if their coin collection is available.

The Gulbenkian coin is of extraordinarily fine style.
There are indeed some notes worth mentioning in the Gulbenkian reference.

Possibly worth checking out...
Newell, Edward T. 1921. The octobols of Histiaea. Numismatic Notes and Monographs, no. 2. New York: American Numismatic Society.
 Noe, ANSMN 8 #55ff.
and works in French by Olivier Picard and Louis Robert.

There are additional references...
 Naville 10 #560
BMC 24. This reference included in the link provided by Pekka K.

My photograph of the Gulbenkian entry is woeful, but you get the idea.

Thank so much Chris for the Gulbenkian image and text, very helpful. Thank you to everyone else for your helpful posts as well.

So as not to stray off topic for the reference section, I’ll post my coin and further questions under Greek Coins, with a link back to this thread.
