Just sometimes? I exchanged some correspondence with a historian in the UK who informed me that she heard that Hungarian was voted to be the most difficult foreign language by British diplomats.

Hahaha,  :) ;)

 We have a great story, some Hungarian scientist (Physicist, some of them get the Noble prize later), was talking in the US around the 1940s about some atomic physics problem, and when the others left they continued the discussion in Hungarian, later the other's comes back and they didn't understand anything, after that, and the group of Hungarian scientists "name" was the  "Martians"...

Nice coin, Joe. In your book you attribute the coin to Béla IV and identify the Hebrew letter as a ט/tet. Has your opinion recently changed? Stkp

Hi Steve,  +++

 Interesting question. We have several discussions with my co-author about this coin.
at first, we followed initially the same line that Huszár, that was the reason why we chose the Hebrew letter "Tet" "ט", in our Book Vol III., after some discussion the other people who professionally know the medieval Hebrew letters, they suggested me to use the "Pe or Fe" "פ" instead of "Tet" "ט", as we described that in our new article in the KOINON III.
Not easy to compare because this two-letter very similar to the shape looks only turning right or left 90 degrees.

22A.76. Béla IV., King of Hungary, (1235-1270 A.D.), CÁC III. 22A.76.01.1., H-400-401, CNH I.-348, U-274(?), AR-Denar (Wiener Pfennig?), #01

"This coin is a member of the so-called "Wiener-Pfennig" group, which are minted for use in the Hungarian circulation at that time (Béla IV. 1235-1270 AD), in a lighter weight, and smaller diameter, and round shape, in line with the Hungarian currency at that time.
This coin also mentioned by the Austrian Corpus, CNA I. B-172, connected to Ottokar II. of Bohemia (1251-1276 A.D.), King, as Vienna mint, AR-Pfennig, (Wiener Pfennig) in greater weight, and larger size and not round shape!. "

Thanks for the explanation, Joe.

I read the KOINON article but did not refer to it when looking at the coin and your attribution. The ט/tet and the פ/pe-fe appear identical, depending on the orientation of the coin. Since the reverse of the coin is otherwise symmetrical, the correct orientation of the coin, and thus of the letter, is up for grabs.

If one subscribes to the view that the letter is a mint-master-mark (which to me appears to be the most likly explanation), as concluded by Rádóczy and Nagy, the letter would likely be a ט/tet, as Teka was ennobled by András II and was active during the reign of Béla IV -- at least until 1243. The פ/pe-fe is likely attributable to Fredman, whose known activities were subsequent to Béla IV.

Of course, Rádóczy and Nagy presupposed that the coin is of Hungarian issuance, in the style of a Vienna pfenning. If it is of Austrian issuance, the identities of the mint-masters would differ, thus compounding the uncertainties.

A definitive identification of the letter may never be made.
