Lorica Squamata scales?
« on: June 19, 2021, 10:32:09 am »
Given the other finds where this was found (mainly military) I'd say with certainty lorica squamata scales however I failed to find ones that rectangular. I know there are examples out there that only have 2-3 holes and that's it possible but finding more then 1 means that it was applied in military context I'd like to think.  It also matches my other (potential) lorica squamata scale I showed previously. Hope these complete examples can be more decisive.

Length is 35mm.

I am afraid not.  There are no known square scalesHad to tell what it is for.

I have all kinds of bits of copper/bronze plate from Roman sites which i can't positively ID.  There must have been hundreds of uses chests, furniture, wagons and carts, plates to stiffen leather, etc.

At least these are whole.

Thanks Shawn. I'm afraid we'll never know then.
