Percy H Webb (academic, intellectual, numismatist, coin collector; 1856 - 1937)

Numismatist. Born in Hampshire, England educated at Marlborough, he qualified as a solicitor and was in practice in West Smithfield for over fifty years. Collector of coins, especially coins of the Roman Empire. Royal Numismatic Society: member from 1901, treasurer from 1906, president from 1930-35; awarded RNS medal in 1921. Publications include: 'Roman Imperial Coinage, vol. 5'. During the War, he worked to help Belgian refugees, for which he received the Medal of King Albert of Belgium. For other war work he received the MBE and the thanks of the New Zealand Government.
