Constantinople mint 1183-1185 AD., DOC IV 3a Sear 1985, Very fine
/ Fine, scarce, estimate $90
Sear notes: during this reign the silver content of the billon trachy was
reduced to such an extent that most specimens have a purely copper appearance.
This brought about a decline in its value in relation to the hyperpyron
(originally 1/48), and by the close of the 12th century it had fallen to a mere
1/184 of the gold coin.
