Map - Ancient Southern Gaul
When Caesar was assigned provinces in Gaul to govern after his year as consul, he was assigned Cisalpine Gaul and the southern area around Narbo, but when he described Gaul in his Commentaries on the Gallic Wars, he said that all Gaul is divided into three parts. One of these was the area ocupied by the Gallic tribes known as Aquitani. As you can see in this map, Aquitaine is a southern province of Gaul (France).
