cf.

Cf. is an abbreviation for the Latin-derived (but also modern English) word confer, meaning compare or consult.  Cf. is used in attributions to refer to a referenced coin that is related to the attributed coin, usually in one of the following circumstances:

- When the attributed coin 's features are obscure or off flan, so it is not possible to be certain it is an exact match to the referenced coin.
- When the referenced coin description and/or plate is unclear, so it is not possible to be certain it is an exact match to the coin being attributed.
- When a referenced coin is not the same or similar enough to the coin being attributed to be described as a variation, but is related in some relevant way. The similarities, differences and/or relationship should be noted. Cf. is usually but not always used for this purpose only when the reference consulted does not include an identical type, or a type similar enough to be considered a variety.

In Forum Ancient Coins ' attributions, cf. applies to all referenced coins following the abbreviation.
