PRIMUS.  Those who were the first (primi) to do any particular thing of public importance, or who bore any any office first, were noted by writers accordingly and the memory of the event struck on coins, as L BRVTVS PRIMus CONSVL.  (A similar instance is read on a denarius of the Flaminia family see PRI FL or Quatuor Vir Monetalis flavit).
On other coins the word primus occurs: SEX NONI PR LVD V P F for Sextus Nonius Praetor Ludos Votivos Primus Fecit.  The Praetor Sextus Nonius was the first who celebrated the Votive Games, and C SERVEIL M F FLORA PRIMVS for Caius Serveillius, Marci Filius, Floralia Primus that is to say, he first instituted the Floral Games.
