Lusitania, part of Hispania ulterior, which Pliny (L. iv. c. 12) bounds by the river Durius (or Douro), calling the other and by far the larger portion by the name of Hispania citerior. But Strabo and Mela ascribe to it much ampler boundaries. It is now called Portugal. - Vaillant in his Colonies (L. p. 35) shews it to have been a province under Augustus. - The Lusitani offered a resistance of some duration to the Romans, but were conquered by D. Brutus.
