Anthemius

12 April 467 - 11 July 472

Procopius Anthemius was the son-in-law of the emperor Marcian and was selected by the emperor Leo, in Constantinople, to be emperor in the west. He married his daughter to the powerful general Ricimer, but their relationship deteriorated until Ricimer set up a rival emperor, Olybrius. After a long seige Rome fell. Anthemius was found disguised as a begger and was beheaded.
