AELIANUS (Quintus Valens); one of the so-called tyranni, or pretenders to imperial and augustal rank and authority, during the reign of Gallienus. The Museum Theupoli contains the following description of a 3rd brass coin, which Eckhel supposes to belong to this ursurper, but its authenticity is doubted by Mionnet. -
Obv. IMP C Q VALENS AELIANVS P AVG. And on its reverse IOVI CONSER AVGG with type of Jupiter, standing; the thunderbolt in the right and the hasta in the left hand. On the exergue SMI.
