Pyxis

An ancient container, always with a cover, originally cylindrical but latter some were octagonal and shapes varied.  The most common were copper, lead, leather and wood.  Expensive pyxis were silver, gold, ivory and glass.  Silver examples are known from as early as the third centuy B.C.
