The subtitle was changed several times: 1899 = General German Journal of Coin and Medal Science, 1902 = Journal of Coin and Medal Science and 1908 = Monatsschrift für Münz- und Münzfreunde and medalist. The publishers were the most renowned numismatists and coin dealers of their time, such as Hermann Grote, the brothers Albert and Julius Erbstein, Heinrich Buchenau and Richard Gaettens.
