REVERSE

GLOR-IAEXERC-ITVS [GLORIA EXERCITVS]; two soldiers, helmeted, stg. looking at one another, holding spear and resting hand on shield set on ground; between them, two standards. Three horizontally aranged dots near the top of the standards. SMH (or SMN or SMK) in exergue.

UNLISTED ISSUE. Coins from GLORIA EXERCITVS series with three dots over two standards were minted only in Heraclea [HERACLEA 126-128]. However, this specimen has no proper m.m. (SMH + officina letter). It could be an engraver's error or m.m. with a worn out officina letter but also the combination of bust type E8 and short obv. legend CONSTANTINVS AVG (instead of CONSTANTINVS MAX AVG) is not attested for Heraclea. Note that such combination is rather rare (e.g. THESSALONICA 154, 169), but also known with GLORIA rev. (ARLES 341). Coin should be listed before HERACLEA 126.
