ENGRAVER'S ERROR. Specimen similar to SISCIA 170b except for obv. legend GAL VAL MAXIMINVS P F AVG instead of GAL VAL MAXIMINVS NOB C. Sutherland mentions this variant in footnote 1 on p. 475 but regards it as an engraver's error: "Vienna has a coin (ex Elmer coll.) with Gal Val Maximinus P F Aug - an engraver's error: no resumption of this reverse type can be conceived of after Maximinus' elevation". Note, however, that it could be another example of peculiar obv. legend from this issue which suggests a broader problem with official orders (see CORRIGENDA, VOL. VI, p. 471).
