REVERSE

HERCVLI-CO-MAVςς [HERCVLI COM AVςς]; Hercules stg. r. (or facing), head l., r. resting on club, l. holding up two apples and lion's skin. Star in left field. ALE in exergue.

REVERSE VARIETY. Specimen similar to ALEXANDRIA 3 except for some small differences (see example of ALEXANDRIA 3 from DUmbarton Oaks Collection). Sutherland describes Hercules as stg. facing (actually l.), with head r. and holding up four apples. Note also different rev. legend break (I-CO-M instead of C-OMA-V) and different placement of a star.

NOTES

Aureus. Weight 5.06 g. Coin sold on Gorny & Mosch auction in October 2009 for EUR 5,400.
