Note 1: The legends were completed by reference to the matching dies on this page of Patricia Lawrence's web site. These are her obverse H and reverse 85. Note 2: Hristova/Jekov 1st edition shows the obverse legend incorrectly as AVT K M OΠЄΛ CEV-HP MAKPINOC. This is corrected in the second edition. Note 3: The two greenish spots on the lower right of the obverse were bronze disease. I have simmered this coin for an hour in a solution of sodium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate (6 Jan 2008); the spots have turned reddish-brown and should now be stable, but will need watching. Note 4: This coin is listed on WildWinds under Macrinus, Nikopolis AE26 Moushmov 1277. |
