Sakas, Pahlavas,...

The Indo-Greek influences gradually began to make appearance in the coinage of the successive rulers of India.  The conquest of Bactria in 135 BC by the Sakas(Scythians)  which resulted sometime in a friendly and sometime a hostile conflict with the Parthians.  The Parthain influence appeared in the early Indo-Scythian ruler's coinage as some features such as "Basileos Basileeon, the King of Kings".  Of the late Sakas,  was the great Saka conqueror Nahapana who ruled as the last king of the Kshaharata dynasty.  The dynasty was followed by the Chastana and for the reason they dominated in the western and central part of India, they became known as Western Kshatrapas.

It was for the first time, the Indian coins recorded date on them, and most of the Saka rulers came to light through their coinage!  The following sections shred further light on the history through the coinage of Indo-Scythians and the Western Kshatrapas.
