CONSTANTINE II (Flavius Claudius Constantinus)
- Flavius Claudius Constantinus was the eldest son of Constantine I and Fausta and was born in 314.
- Following Constantine's wars with Licinius, a treaty was signed at Serdica on 1st March 317. Constantine's sons Crispus and Flavius Claudius Constantinus (Constantine II) were proclaimed Caesars, as was Licinius junior.
- In 328 he was sent to administer Gaul, where he distinguished himself against the Goths.
- Constantine died on 22nd May 337, and his surviving sons, Constantine II, Constantius II and Constans succeeded him, each with the title Augustus (9th September 337).
- Constantine II's share of the Empire included Britain, Gaul, and Spain.
- Constantine had designs on his brother Constans's territory and in 340, invaded Italy.
- The invasion was a fiasco, and Constantine's army was ambushed and he was killed near Aquileia.
