HOSTILIAN (C. Valens Hostilianus Messius Quintus)

  • Hostilianus was the younger son of Trajan Decius and brother of Herennius Etruscus, and was given the rank of Caesar in 251 AD.
  • On the death of his father and brother in a battle against the Goths at Abrittus, in June 251, the successor of Decius and Etruscus, raised him to the rank of Augustus.
  • Shortly afterwards in July 251, Hostilian died of plague.
