AELIUS (Lucius Aelius Verus Caesar)

  • Lucius Ceionius Commodus was born about 104 AD, son of a Consul.
  • In 136 AD Hadrian, was 60 years old, and in failing health. Needing a successor, he adopted, Lucius Ceionius Commodus, who was given the name Lucius Aelius Verus Caesar.
  • Aelius was appointed consul in 136 AD and again the following year, then sent to Pannonia, as governor.
  • Before he could succeed, Aelius died on 1st January 138.
