AELIUS (Lucius Aelius Verus Caesar) Lucius Ceionius Commodus was born about 104 AD, son of a Consul. In 136 AD Hadrian, was 60 years old, and in failing health. Needing a successor, he adopted, Lucius Ceionius Commodus, who was given the name Lucius Aelius Verus Caesar. Aelius was appointed consul in 136 AD and again the following year, then sent to Pannonia, as governor. Before he could succeed, Aelius died on 1st January 138.
