GEORGE VI King of Great Britain and N. Ireland (House of Windsor), 11th December 1936 to 6th February 1952, second son of George V, born 14th December 1895. A shy man whose health was never strong, George VI was horrified at the thought of reigning. Aided by Queen Elizabeth his inspiring leadership had an important effect upon the country at war.
