GEORGE V King of Great Britain and Ireland (House of Windsor), (6th May 1910 to 20 January 1936), only surviving son of Edward VII, born 3rd June 1865. Prince George pursued a naval career until his elder brother's death made him eventual heir. hut he remained a forthright naval officer all his life. Very English, he led the nation ably in World War I and turned the Germanic Saxe-Coburg Dynasty into the House of Windsor. A serious monarch, George V earned a popularity he never courted.
