Huszár/Pohl rarity rating 5. The obverse and reverse legends depicted and described in Huszár and Pohl differ from the legends depicted and described in Unger and Réthy. To the extent that the legends on this coin can be discerned, it appears to conform to Huszár and Pohl.
“Owing to inner strife and disordered general conditions, the coins [of this period] were usually minted with extremely low precious metal content; moreover, poor mintages were often struck with negligently engraved dies. As a result of the hurried, superficial minting, it was sometimes doubtful whether a faulty coin had been issued officially, or was a forgery” (Huszár 1963).

Obv: + REGInE • VnGARI [Gothic-style letter A], Open crown with CM below
Rev: + mOnETA • mARIE [Gothic-style letters A], Patriarchal cross
As both sides of the standard Huszár 569 carry a titular legend, there is no consensus regarding obverse and reverse. The fullest legend on the side identified by Huszár and Pohl as the obverse (the side with the crown) is + mARIE D G R VnGARIE (although most coins are missing at least the first G). The fullest legend on the side identified by Unger, Réthy, Frynas and Gyöngyössy as the obverse (the side with the patriarchal cross) is + mOnETA mARIE R V. Since the letters R V are so often omitted from the cross side, Toma accepts the crown side as the obverse.
The standard Huszár 569 was struck in 1384-1395 (per Huszár, with Unger and Frynas agreeing that it incepted in 1384) or in 1385-1395 (per Pohl), and is traditionally viewed as the last of three denarii struck by Maria. More recently, it has been viewed as the second type struck by her (after Huszár 565 and before Huszár 566), in 1383-1385 (per Gyöngyössi and Toma). This coin, with a Cm below the crown, was struck in Körmöcbánya/Kremnitz (now Kremnica, Slovakia) by Johannes Craczer in 1385 (per Pohl).
Toma notes fifteen legend variations among 45 coins of the standard type within the Cluj-Mănăştur Hoard, found in Cluj-Napoca, Romania (formerly, Kolozsvár, Hungary), in 1934. They differ mainly in terms of completeness of legends, spelling of the queen's name, presence of pellets, and the styles of the letter A. Toma lists two variations among five coins with a Cm mark (Pohl 114-4).
Toma further notes four versions of the crown and four versions of the patriarchal cross on the standard type. There are six obverse/reverse design combinations appearing among 41 coins in the hoard, only one of which, Toma A/b, appears among four coins with a Cm (Pohl 114-4). The design combination on this coin appears to be Toma A/b.
Huszár/Pohl rarity rating 5. This coin is a variation of the type not described/depicted in Huszár and Pohl, Unger and Réthy, or Frynas. It is also not included in Toma's tabulation of legend variations or design combinations. It was recorded by Rupp with the Cm mark (Pohl 114-4) and viewed by Unger (1974) to be a distinct type, although it is not included in his catalog. Toma notes 16 coins of this variation in the hoard, bearing four privy marks, eleven with this mark but different legend combinations (Toma plate III/15-17). This combination is represented with a different mark from Körmöcbánya/Kremnitz. Toma refers to the side with the patriarchal cross as the obverse, and notes that the design and legend are as per the obverse of Huszár 566. Toma refers to the side with the crown as the reverse, and notes that legend is as per the reverse legend of Huszár 566 but that the design is as per the obverse of Huszár 569. Toma concludes that this variation represents a distinct type, chronologically sandwiched between the earlier Huszár 569 and later Huszár 566.Stkp

The legendary Fleet coinage of Antony belongs to two series, heavy and light. The "light series" is thought to have been minted at a later date, possibly just after Antony returned from his conference with Octavian in 37 BC. The meeting saw the Pact of Tarentum. Part of that agreement saw Antony loan 120 ships to Octavian along with his Admirals Altratinus and Capito.
A fine insight into Antony's administrative abilities can be seen by his fleet coinage that came in sestertius, dupondius and as denominations. Of note is that Antony's "Fleet Coinage" shows the appearance of the first sestertius in bronze rather than silver. When Octavian (Augustus) reformed the coinage 20 years later he maintained the exact same denominations; sestertius, dupondius and as. After Actium Octavian also kept many if not all of the client Kings in their positions and territories. A strong case for Antony's capabilities as an administrator.
M. Oppius Capito occupied an important position in Antony's inner circle although little is known of him. Capito's coins are more abundant than those of his colleagues and only Capito's coins include the title "Praefectus classis" (Prefect of the fleet). Most of his coins are found in Greece and were probably minted in Piraeus, the harbor complex of Athens. Athens at this time was the home of Antony and Octavia so it is likely that Capito's mint would be located here.

This facing head of Herakles is a miniature masterpiece of the engraver’s art, including such small details as the Adam’s apple of Herakles. The tilt of Herakles head and his semi-skyward gaze is reminiscent of the preferred portraiture of Alexander the Great for whom Herakles was a patron God. Following the death of Alexander the Great, Herakles became a favored subject for the facing head portrayal on Hellenistic coinage in contrast to the preceding period in which Athena dominated.

This coin was issued as the Hellenistic age was in decline, succumbing to the expansionary drive of Rome. The coins of this issue were often struck from relatively crude dies in an advanced state of wear. Yet they retain a charm and aesthetic that in some sense seems to speak of the last gasps of a dying Hellenistic age. The obverse image is thought to depict the cult statue of Aphrodite Aeneias, whose sanctuary was situated near the town of Leukas, overlooking the shipping canal that separated the island from the mainland.

Roman Bow, Aucissa Fibula #003202 viewsFibula #003
type: Aucissa type, variant,
It is actually an Aucissa variant as the bow differs from the regular Aucissa one. It is not another type under the Aucissa group, like Bagendon, it is clearly Aucissa type but a variant. The bow appears to be U-shaped in cross-section not the standard flatish bow with central ridge.
Some Aucissa fibulae have a word moulded on the head, above the hinge. These are thought to be the name of the manufacturer, as is the case with the name found on the base of Roman oil lamps. The most famous name is "AVCISSA" from which the type-name is derived. The AVCISSA workshop was located somewhere in northern Italy though is likely a Celtic-derived name. Other names are found, especially on Aucissa Fibulae from Pannonia.
In addition to the standard type with flat ribbon bow with several parallel rides running down it there are variants with half-round cross-section bow usually with a single line down the middle, with a very narrow half-round cross-section bow, and with a fully round cross-section bow. However, all of thee variatios share the same form of head and foot and the high arch of the bow.
size: 50x26mm,
weight: 7,12g,
date: 1st century A.D.,c. 30/10 B.C. - A.D. 50 (Augustan to Claudian period), though some were used into the Flavian period or later (they are found in Dacia where they likely came after Trajan's invasion).
ref: Hattatt 831.,
distribution: Origin in north Italy. Used throughout the Empire and in Barbaricum. Used by the Roman military.,

Note: Interestingly, no coins countermarks "AΔP" are also countermarked "ΔAK". "ΔAK" is clearly the more common of the two countermarks. The meaning of "AΔP" is uncertain. There are also coins of Macrinus from Leucas countermarked "AΔP", and Howgego therefore argues that it cannot refer to Hadrian. It seems odd, though, that issues of Trajan and Macrinus (but NONE of intervening emperors) should have been countermarked at the same time. If this really were the case, one would expect coins of Trajan to be heavily worn, which is not the case. Collection Automan.Automan

RIC 788 (C). BMC 156. RSC 375. BNC 135.
Ex Harlan J Berk BBS 155, 31 July 2007, lot 247.
During Vespasian's reign, Domitian was given the honorary title PRINCEPS IVVENTVT or 'Prince of Youth', celebrated here on this denarius from 74 AD. The title is one that was often given to young princes who were marked out as chosen heirs.
Spes, the personification of hope, is seen here on the reverse advacing left, holding a budding flower. The flower is a symbol of future well being.
Domitian's coinage during Vespasian's rule was unique. While Titus followed closely the types of his father, Domitian struck out on his own. One wonders how much of an input the young prince had on his own series.
A very likeable coin with a good portrait and excellent centring.

Berlin 58, 11) of the Imperial family...So we have in te middle Severus and Domna, on the l. side Caracalla and on the r. side a bit smaller Geta. The triumphal arch seems to be erected under Severus but appears not until Caracalla's sole reign, probably at the beginning because Geta is depicted too (Pick).

"They are listed as late Hallstatt, from the Hallstatt D3 period which is just before the La tene era. So circa 500-450 BC.
They are simply called Hallstatt era Crossbow fibula with foot knob (Armbrustfibeln mit Fusszier).
From what I can tell yours is Mansfeld Type F3 (based on the knob configuration).
This is from figure 77, page 27(437) of Fibel und Fibeltracht, part of the Reallexikon der Germanischen Altertumskunde (2000), de Gruyter, Berlin." by Shawn, thank you Shawn.
