Archer House hotel was constructed in 1878 on the corner of Buckeye and Liberty Streets, on the site of the earlier wood frame Washington House tavern. The founders, tailor E.B. Connelly and his sister-in-law Melinda, named the establishment after Melinda's deceased son, Archer. Melinda Connelly later remarried to A.M. 010 Anund JacobPenny of Anund Jacob, king of Sweden 1022-1050
Mint: Sigtuna
Moneyer: Thormoth
Lagerqvist 9
Malmer 14.310/1252, chain 204
O: ANVN D REX SI
R: DORMOD ON SIHTV
King Anund Jacob of Sweden was born as just Jacob to king Olof "Skötkonung" of Sweden and Queen Estrid , his parents had converted to Christianity prior to his birth and gave their son a Christian biblical name. Sweden was only just adopting Christianity at this time, and the name Jacob was not very recognizable or acceptable to the Swedes, so he was also named Anund, and is remembered to history by this name. He became a co-ruler with his father late in Olof's reign, and became king in 1022. Despite a long reign (1022-1050), Anund's history is poorly remembered.
He did produce coins, but the volume of coinage seemed to take a sharp decline after Olof's death, and would cease altogether at some point during Anund's reign. Coins of Olof are by no means common, but those in the name of Anund are very rare. Anund's coins take three main flavors-
1- Those in his name imitating Aethelred's long cross type
2- Those in his name imitating Cnut's pointed helmet type
3- Blundered coins that die link or stylistically link to the above two
There is the likelihood that much if not all of his coinage was produced in the first few years of his reign, and may have ceased by 1030. The coins were probably all produced at Sigtuna.
Anund is remembered to history as "Kolbränna" or "coal-burner". Sadly, this was not because he cooked a mean steak on the barbecue. Rather, it presumably is due to his tactic of burning down the houses of his enemies. Keep in mind that this was probably not just an act of property vandalism. If you've read "Njáls saga", an Icelandic saga, you might recall the climax of the story, when the protagonist's house is burned by his enemies with the family still inside. This was a raiding tactic familiar to the Nordic people. A force would besiege a house, or hall, or fort, where people lived and farmed, and set the building on fire. Women and young children were usually permitted to leave, but the men would not be allowed exit and die by fire. This is brutal medieval Viking era stuff. This is our Anund 🙂

History: After the death of Antoninus Pius the parthian king, Vologaesus III run over Armenia in 161 AD. The Expeditio orientalis was started the next year from Capua,Italy. Statius Priscus, Avidius Cassius and Martius Verus were entrusted with command of the legions while Marcus Aurelius conducted affairs of the state back in Rome. The 5 year campaign (161 – 166 AD) against Parthia proved to be as decisive as any war in recent Roman history. A Roman candidate once again sat the Armenian throne and Parthia had been thoroughly defeated. This coin commemorate the end of the first phase of the Parthian War.berserker

Half man and half goat, a spritely horned Pan holds one of his usual attributes in his upraised right hand – a throwing stick or lagobolon used for hunting rabbits, one of the god’s favorite animals. In his left hand he carries a small bag, perhaps to secure the quarry. Pan is known for his prowess in hunting smaller rather than larger game, the pursuit of which was presided over by Artemis as ultimate goddess of the hunt.okidoki

Aurelian RIC TEMP 2868 var. - UNLISTED in RIC V ONLINE WITH SUCH ORIGINAL DEPICTION OF MINERVA !!!OBVERSE: IMP AVRELIANVS AVG
OBVERSE MARK: (•)
REVERSE: MINERVA AVG = Minerva walking left, holding shield in left arm and branch in right hand
BUST TYPE: A3 = Radiate, cuirassed and draped bust left, seen from back
FIELD / EXERGUE MARKS: -/-//-
MINT: CYZICUS
ISSUE: 2 (early 271)
WEIGHT: 3,26 g
RIC TEMP: unlisted with this reverse type !!!
Coll. no. 235
Note: very rare bust type in the coinage of Aurelian struck only at the mint of Cyzicus in combination with a completely unpublished reverse type. A coin of the highest numismatic interest!
Same obverse die as coins RIC TEMP 2878, RIC TEMP 2893, RIC TEMP 2829.1, which allows to attribute this unpublished coin with a reverse type lacking any mintmarks to the second issue of Cyzicus mint, especially as the standard MINERVA AVG type (with Minerva standing and holding spear and shield, facing left or right) was struck during issue 2 at Cyzicus.
Such original depiction of Minerva (walking left, holding shield in left arm and branch in right hand) varies significantly to the typical depiction of Minerva in which the Goddess is holding a spear and shield (see e.g. RIC TEMP no. 2861 or 2868) and seems unique in the whole Roman coinage. The only similar (yet not identical) depictions of Minerva can be found in the coinage of Postumus and Septimius Sever.
Only the second known specimen of this exact type (the other was sold at Solidus auction 6 lot 356). The third known example of this extraordinary reverse type is from a different pair of dies (and with a different bust type) - see https://www.wildwinds.com/coins/ric/aurelian/RIC_0334v.jpg

Cilician Armenia. Hetoum I (1226-1270) Bedoukian Group I, 878; cf. Nercessian 332
AR tram (average weight 2.96 grams; average purity 92%), 2.82 g., 20.78 mm, max, 0°.
Obv: ԿԱՐՈՂՈԹ – ԻՆՆ ԱՅ Է (= Garoghout Iun Aye = By the Will of God), Queen Zabel left and King Hetoum right crowned and wearing royal vestments, standing and facing, both holding a long cross, star on cross.
Rev: ՀԵԹՈՒՄ ԹԱԳԱՒՈՐ ՀԱՅՈ° (ՈՐ ligate) (= Hetoum Takavor Hayots = Hetoum King of the Armenians), crowned lion standing right holding long cross with left paw.
The obverse showing the king and queen openly acknowledges the fact that Zabel was of royal lineage and that Hetoum was her consort. Although Zabel died in 1252, Hetoum continued to strike coins with this design until his resignation in 1270.
The coins are divided by Bedoukian into seven groups (as well as a transitional period), with the numbering of the groups based on the order of issue. Although critical of Bedoukian's classification of the trams of Levon I, Metcalf approves his classification of the Hetoum I trams.Stkp
