PB Tessera (13mm, 3.30 g, 12 h)
Facing head of Medusa
Bestiarius standing facing, holding net and spear
Rostowzew 589 = Kircheriano 1167
The Roman bestiarii were arena fighters who fought against animals while wielding the spear and net. While professional schools for this role eventually developed, most animal fighters were condemned prisoners who barely survived a single match. They should be distinguished from the traditional gladiatiores, who fought only other men. It was in the role of bestiarius that Commodus won his arena fame and Herculean title.Ardatirion

The reverse type here more closely resembles a swan than it does a hippocamp. While the swan is a symbol of Aphrodite, Dattari (Savio) 11857 clearly shows the head a hippocamp. It is possible that these are two distinct types.Ardatirion

ex Aegean Numismatics
Enna, known in antiquity as ‘The Navel of Sicily’, was located in the geographic center of Sicily on a high plateau which served as a natural fortress. It is said that one could see all three Sicilian coasts from the city’s heights.
Perhaps more important than its strategic location however was Enna’s religious significance, for it was here that Persephone was abducted by Hades and here that the cult of Her mother Demeter thrived.
"In the interior [of Sicily] is Enna, where is the temple of Demeter, with only a few inhabitants; it is situated on a hill, and is wholly surrounded by broad plateaus that are tillable."

Rare
ex Bertolami Fine Arts
A very rare and enigmatic coin with conflicted attributions.
SNG Copenhagen places this coin at Taras, as does Vlasto, although Vlasto puts it under the heading "Bronze Coins Doubtfully Attributed to Tarentum" and claims Kroton as a probable alternative.
SNG ANS gives it clearly to Kroton, while HN Italy seems to attribute both cities with varying catalog numbers.
I believe this coin is likely from Kroton as this city-state often used the octopus as a common device.Enodia

D'Andrea Diobols plate coin, Series J, Type 282
This coin was sold as being from Teate, Apulia and Vlasto claims that this type was minted "in alliance with Teate". Both of these opinions are based on the ethnic reading TIATI, which it may, but I am not entirely convinced that it doesn't in fact read TAPAN.
In either case it is a very scarce type with Herakles facing left in his struggle with the Nemean lion, and is very similar to my specimen of the Vlasto 1415 diobol but without the Ionic capital below Herakles' club.

Visigoths in Gaul (RIC X 3703)Visigoths in Gaul, circa 415-423 (Athaulf - Theodoric I), AR siliqua (13mm, 0.99 g). Minted in Narbonne(?), Gaul. Obverse: D N HONORI-VS P F AVG, pearl-diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust right. Reverse: [VICTOR] IA AVGG, Roma seated left on cuirass, holding Victory on globe and spear; PSRV in exergue. RIC X 3703, rare.
After sacking Rome in 410 the Visigoths settled in southern Gaul. The successive kings of the Visigoths were Athaulf (410-415), Sigeric (415, only seven days), Wallia (415-419), and Theodoric I (419-451). The Visigoths minted issues in the name of Priscus Attalus (RIC X 3701-2) around 415 during an attempt to resurrect their candidate for Western emperor. Kent (NC 149 [1989], pp. i-xvi) dated the present related issue to circa 418-423 when the Visigoths made peace with Honorius and became official foederati.Jan
