Tiberius.png
Tiberius AsI purchased this in Zadar Croatia. In the market in the old town, on Sunday, some folks were selling coins of various kinds. One seemed to be a collector/numismatician in the way he kept his coins (and he did not look like a tourist trap). I wanted to leave Croatia with a roman coin, but I did not want to invest too much then and there. This was 80 kuna (about 8 Euros in local currency). I did not have a Tiberius yet, this coin wasn't too expensive, and albeit the very bad condition, I decided to go ahead and get it. Plus it makes a nice souvenir/memory from that vacation.Alex FOct 27, 2018
Commodus.png
Commodus SestertiusI got this this spring in Paris while attending a conference. I had a few hours to kill around 'Bourse' and visited to coin shops there. Of the few stores I went in, this one had the grumpiest owner/clerk. The guy was inspecting some coins of his very carefully as I rang the bell, and seemed annoyed that me, a customer, had wondered in and disturbed him, that he had to buzz the door open. He was eager to get back to his coins... I liked that and it made me like the store even more.

philipus.png
Philipus SestertiusThis is the first roman coin I ever purchased. I was in Brussels in Spring 2011, and I was going through the antique stores on Rue de Midi. My name is Filip, so it felt natural that the first ancient coin I buy should be of Philip. I saw this and was immediately hooked.Alex FOct 27, 2018
Theodosius.png
Nummus (?) of TheodosiusI purchased this in Aachen at a more generic antique store. The owner had a box of coins from all over and different periods mixed together. This was one of a few roman coins in there... he did not seem to know what this coin actually was.

Maximianus.png
Maximianus(Follis?). Purchased in Tiergarten Antique market.I had my doubts about this one, as I had purchased it for 8 Euros, and was afraid that a coin (even a bronze one of maximianus) cannot go for so little when in such good condition. I took it to a few numismatic shops and asked the opinions of people there (including the guy in Paris I got the Commodus Sestertius from). They told me they believe it's real. I was told in Paris that the coin's edges have been tooled - that it was likely part of a piece of jewelry at some point, which diminishes it's value - hence the low price. Another numismatician offered to buy it off me for 15 Euros (double what I paid). I kept the coin.

Diolcetian.png
Diocletian Bronze RadiateThis coin, purchased in the Tiergarten Market, was part of a piece of jewelry at some point (at least I believe so, given the hole drilled in it)

Postumus.png
Postmus AntoninianPurchased in Bremen.
I suppose this may have a higher silver content than the traditional (billon) antoninians of the time since Postumus controlled for a time the silver mines in Spain (unless I am mistaken).

Aurelianus.png
Antoninian of AurelianusWhile I doubt this is the most valuable coin I have, it's my most expensive purchase ever. The reason for it is that I bought this in 2012 in a numismatic store in... Oslo. God that country is expensive!Alex FOct 27, 2018
Trajan.png
Trajan DenariusThis piece was purchased in Cologne. We were rushing to get to the ships that cruise up the Rhine - I asked my company to give me 10 minutes when I noticed we had just walked past a numismatic shop... I think I was in there for longer... we _almost_ missed the ship.Alex FOct 27, 2018

Jovian_Compound.png
Nummus/Follis of JovianPurchased in London, on a business trip, from Coincraft- across the street from the British Museum. I checked out a few numismatic shops in London, including the ones I was told ‘should’ be more affordable – those were actually rather pricey. I was not too keen on dropping a couple hundred pounds in London, but I also really wanted to not leave town without getting a coin there... I eventually found the Coincraft – which I had been told in advance is the most expensive - to actually be the friendliest towards the casual, low-budget collector.Alex FOct 27, 2018
