Gordian III Imitation Providentia HybridIMP GORDIANVS PIVS FEL AVG
PROVIDENTIA AVG

RIC 227 ("Hybrids") (S)

Weight : 3,85gr

Obverse of the issue 3C-5, reverse of the issue I.

The represtentation of PROVIDENTIA is a representation of the first issue.
The style is very good, quite official.

Withe good silvering, this coin was very hard to détect as an imitation.

Antoninianus Gordian III Imitation "Barbarous" VIRTVS AVG ????IMP CAES MANT GORDIANVS AVG
????? maybe VIRTVS or VICTORIA

Weight : 2,90 gr

Fourree

A very unusual style. The portrait is very strange and typical.
The style is touching and a bit clumsy.

I think it's the same celator as for this other imitations (from my collection ) :

Antoninianus Gordian III Imitation ???? Hybrid PM TRP III COS PP Emperor altarAvers : IMP CAES MANT GORDIANVS AVG
Revers : PM TRP III COS PP, Gordian sacrificing

Weight : 1,98 gr

RIC : 224 ("Hybrids") (S)
This coin is an hybrid : Obverse of the issue 1-3B, reverse of the issue 3C.
The style is very good. It could to seem official. But the weight is too low.
Maybe official dies wich were steal in a official mint ? Or an official celator who made imitations ? Or an official coin with a very low weight ?
