Herod I - 8 prutot (dated year 3 = either 40BC or 37BC)Hendin-486 / 1169 (01)
7.76 grams
The dating of these coins is subject to debate. Some say that because Herod was appointed Tetrarch of Samaria by Marc Antony in 42BC, that "year 3" would correspond to 40/39BC. Others feel that because Herod was appointed King of Judaea by the Roman Senate in 40BC, that "year three" should then represent 37BC. In all reality, the debate will most likely never be settled conclusively, one way or the other.cmcdon092311/01/06 at 04:55boazin: Superb coin, Cheers!!
