Tripod bowl with base extending to same depth as legs, which are slanted outward; one leg is intact, one chipped, and one missing. The bowl bears some similarities to Medvedskaya’s (Iran: Iron Age I) Fig. 4, Sialk 22 and 23. (It is sort of a hybrid of these).

Wide-shouldered, tapering blade with thick midrib; elliptical penannular guard; slender cylindrical grip with incised linear motifs; pommel missing (may well have been a double-disk/cotton-reel pommel); stable crack through blade at shoulder; abrasions and nicks commensurate with age.

Ex-Marius-Victor-Ernest Dumas Collection. Acquired in Tunisia between c. 1890-1920. M. Dumas was Controleur Civile (French colonial administrator) of the city of Sousse in Tunisia prior to World War I. This piece, along with Dumas’ entire collection of Roman and North African antiquities, remained in his family for a century in the Haute-Savoie region of France.

Ex-Arthur M. Sackler collection. [Sackler (1913-1987) was one of America's preeminent collectors of Asian and ancient art.] This piece was among dozens of ancient Near Eastern ceramics works from the Arthur M. Sackler Collection released from long term storage by Sotheby's, c. 2009. They were sold at auction by Millea Bros. at the Morristown, New Jersey Armory, February 2011.
