Rev: Bust of Artemis right, wearing kalathos. Retrograde Greek legend
Struck first half of 2nd Century A.D. at Elymais

Note: Elymais was a small kingdom occupying the hilly region between Babylonia and Persis, maintaining a quasi-independence of its powerful neighbor, the Arsacid Kingdom of Parthia. With the fall of the Arsacids, however, Elymais was conquered by Ardashir and became a province of that prince's new Sassanian Empire. Very little is known of the history and chronology of this kingdom other than the information yielded by the coins themselves. (taken from Sear's GREEK IMPERIAL COINS AND THEIR VALUES)

BYZANTINE, Justinian I, Anonymous Half-Siliqua, Struck at Constantinople (c.530AD), Bendall Type 8cObverse: Helmeted and draped bust of Constantinople facing right.
Reverse: Large K in a pearl border.

S. Bendall made an attempt at the classification and chronology of these types. He accepted the general conclusion that the oldest issues, of very fine style, were struck during the inauguration of the new capital of the empire on May 11th, A.D.330. Bendall, having analyzed the changes in style, suggested that some issues were struck on the anniversaries of the founding of Constantinople in A.D.430 and A.D.530, and that other variants might have been issued during the reign of Justinian I to celebrate the reconquest of Italy.

Ref : Emmet, Alexandrian coins #4241/2, RCV # 12982 (2000), Sear # 4801 var (It's actually an hexadrachm in Sear)
Domitius Domitianus, stationed in Egypt, rebelled against Diocletianus in july 296 AD and was proclaimed emperor. He was defeated during spring 297 AD. Diocletian decided to close the alexandrian mint, so the coins of Domitianus are the last provincial coins from Alexandria. Also, Domitianus was the only ruler to strike octadrachms (in parallel with didrachms, tetradrachms and hexadrachms)

GREEK, Pamphylia, Aspendos stater with Ba'al countermarkThis BOT entry asks you to consider more than the usual question of coin grade. To match or exceed this 'type' I ask you consider not just the coin but the countermark and its placement. The countermark should have a better strike of the bull and, especially, better clarity of the LUY legend (Aramaic for Ba'al read right to left). Further, I'll expect the flat mark on the opposite side to do less damage to that design than this one. My example suffers from the dotted border falling across the middle of the bull so there is a lot of room for improvement here. Each voter can deside if the off centered reverse is a fault or a benefit since it makes room for the countermark.
This BOT entry is to demonstrate that there are many factors to consider when 'grading an ancient coin.
