Attribution: The Society of the Sons of the Revolution in the State of Virginia
Date: AD 1920
Recipient: 2nd Lt. Luther Throckmorton C.A.L. (my maternal grandmother’s father & descendant of Sir Nicholas Throckmorton (or Throgmorton), ambassador to France under Henry VIII)
Obverse: Large eagle facing l., biplane below l. wing, anchor below r. wing; l. of eagle – oval with revolutionary soldier stg. r. holding musket, 1776 above; r. of eagle – oval with WWI soldier walking l. holding rifle, 1917-1918 above; above eagle – oval with small eagle above, 13 stars around, and WWI soldier marching facing forward, rifle on back; below eagle – large circle with 13 stars and “SONS OF THE REVOLUTION” around, and revolutionary soldier stg. l. on ladder, holding musket while waving long banner, 1778 and 1888 on either side.
Reverse: COPYRIGHT 1920 (engraved), PRESENTED BY THE SOCIETY OF SONS OF THE REVOLUTION IN THE STATE OF VIRGINIA TO, 2nd Lt. L. Throckmorton C.A.L. (engraved in cursive), FOR SERVICE IN THE WORLD WAR 1917-1918.
