Silver Indian fanam, Cochin-Malabar Coast, Changalya Rajah, 17th-19th century
Notes: Stylized boar facing right on obv., stylized deity on reverse. 6 mm in diameter, 0.5g. Scarce.
These are actually scarcer than the gold fanams - debased gold and silver fanams were minted for short periods of time in the 18th century, and are less common. Most of these coins have 6 to 8 karat gold content and have very pale golden look to them.
