ROMAN EMPIRE, Caracalla Moneta denarius (Laodicea) - RIC 337d
|
Obv: IMP C M AVR ANTON AVG P TR P
Caracalla, laureate, draped right
Rev: MONETA AVGG
Moneta standing left, holding scale and cornucopiae
RIC IV 337d; BMCRE 642; RSC 168e.
Minted Laodicea ad Mare, 198 A.D.
I think this is a beautiful portrait of the ten year old Caracalla. The coin is also notable for being the product of the Laodicea mint (modern Latakia in Syria).
