RIC 921 VAR. (Unlisted with X•XI mark)
COLLECTION NO. 1549
NOTE: Unpublished and only the second known example of this highly interesting type with dot between the first X and the second X of the XXI reform mark in the whole coinage of Probus (the second example is my coin no. 977).
The position of the dot is very peculiar and it is difficult to determine its meaning unlike the meaning of the rare specimens from Siscia with the XX•I mark. The latter mark was used in the latest issues of Siscia under Aurelian to underline the essence of the reform of the coinage, i.e. the 1/20 ratio of silver in the reformed antoninianus).
Provenance: Paul Francis Jacquier Auction 46 lot 599 = ex Philippe Gysen collection
