P M under bust surprising and scarce; very nice detail of Virtus' helmet, clothing, boots, and shield!

Nice one man! This is from an 'Unknown Eastern Mint' not Antioch, it is quite a nice example, the more common of this same type has the 'PM' that yours has under the bust, at the end of the title, in fact I have one of that type in my collection. The 'PM' below the bust is much rarer, great aquisition mate! and Virtus looks great on the reverse, very well struck, these are some interesting coins, only three reverse types used.... this one 'VIRTUS EXERCITUS' as well as 'SPES FELICITATIS ORBIS' = 'Hope for a Happy World' and one of the most popular 'PAX FVNDATA CVM PERSIS' = 'a foundation of Peace with Persia' all these three types from what people call 'the Unknown Eastern Mint' were struck in 244 AD right after the end of a war between Rome and Persia. Very interesting coinage, check out some of mine, I have a couple of SPES, doug has an amazing collection, beautiful stuff.

You made the right choice; a great reverse.

You made a VERY good choice... not just is it a beautiful coin, but it is from a rare Unknown Eastern mint as I said.... and one of the rarer types at that, with the 'PM' below the bust!!!! I am very jealous hehe!
I have kinda started half-assedly collecting these 'Unknown Eastern Mint' Philip I coins from AD 244, and even I have yet to get one with the 'P M' beneath the bust! Yo done good boy, real good.

Dougsmit and some other folks wrote some really good info about these coins I will try to PM it to you on CT or somewhere.

Thanks, Doug showed me a bit (was the one who suggested the coin). Forvm has one with PM under the bust right now, w/ Pax reverse.
