PROBUS MPR 229
OBVERSE: IMP C M AVR PROBVS P AVG
REVERSE: VIRTVS AVGVSTI (Roma dressed as amazon resting on shield and holding Spear)
BUST TYPE: H2 = radiate bust left in consular robe, holding eagle-tipped sceptre (scipio)
FIELD / EXERGUE MARKS: -/-//RE
WEIGHT 3.08g / AXIS: 6h / WIDTH 23mm
RIC: 239 VAR. (RE MINTMARK UNLISTED)
J.Guillemain, MPR 229 (1 EX.)
S.Estiot, Ph.Gysen RN 2006 (7 ex.)
Collection no. 1145

NOTE: scarce and desirable reverse type. Although RIC describes this type as "soldier resting on shield (...)" on better preserved specimens a nude breast is clearly visible, which effectively precludes a reference to a soldier. According to S.Estiot this is a personification of Roma dressed as amazon (hence the nude breast).
