RIC 0102 Titus denarius
IMP TITVS CAES VESPASIAN AVG P M
Laureate head of Titus right

TR P IX IMP XV COS VIII P P
Captives, two back to back, seated either side of trophy, woman on left, man on right.

Rome, January 1- June 30, 80 CE

2.73g

RIC 102 (C); Hendin 6615

One interpretation is that this coin was Issued to commemorate a victory in Britain by Agricola, in connection with Titus' 15th imperial acclamation. However, there is no evidence for this supposed British Victory on any other coin of Titus. Hendin classifies this as a Judaea Capta issue, which is understandable given the iconography. When considered together with the entirety of Titus' coinage, it becomes apparent this is in fact a Jewish war commemorative.

Worn, but with a lovely old cabinet patina.

Ex-C. Euston from an old European collection, with ticket.

Great coin! I love this type. I agree that Agricola sounds more likely.
