Vespasian RIC II 0847
|
Vespasian 69-79 A.D. AR Denarius. Rome Mint 76 A.D. (3.14g, 17.9m, 6h). Obv: IMP CAESAR VESPASIANVS AVG, laureate head right. Rev: COS VII, eagle standing front on garlanded base, thunderbolt in claws, wings open, head left. RIC II 847, BMC 180, RSC 121.
This type could refer to the death of Mucianus. In this example, like many I’ve seen, lacks the garland on the base and thunderbolt in the eagle’s claws.
