PROBUS CLEMENTIA TEMP 3rd EMMISSION 6th OFFICINA
 OBVERSE: IMP C M AVR PROBVS P F AVG
 REVERSE: CLEMENTIA TEMP
BUST TYPE: A2 = Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust right, seen from rear
 FIELD / EXERGUE MARKS: ζ•//XXI
 EMMISSION: 3
 WEIGHT 3.86g / AXIS: 6h / WIDTH 21mm
 MINT: 4th, unspecified oriental mint
 RIC 922
 COLLECTION NO. 705

Attribution of this coin to the 4th unspecified oriental mint instead of Antiochia (as in RIC V.II) is based on the article by S. Estiot, "L’Empereur et l’usurpateur: un 4e atelier oriental sous Probus"; Studies in ancient coinage in honor of Anndrew Burnett, Spink, London, 2015.

Note: On this coin the cursive digamma (symbol of the 6th officina) looks almost like a latin "S", contrary to my coin no. 889 where the cursive digamma is struck completely differently

Provenance: EBAY auction / LANZ Numismatik / 371704620483 of 2016-08-18

Keywords: PROBUS
