Rather an unusual style for the Griffin types, an odd looking head which might be the die cutters attempt at having the rear wing in a more foreshortening position or on second thoughts it is more likely to be an attempt at getting the head looking up (like some of the other animal types do). Also notice the tail is cut with lines and circles giving it a somewhat bony-like appearance.
