The ancient walls of the huge 15th Cent. Inca fortress known as Sacsayhuaman, elevation 12,000 feet above sea level. The fortress was incomplete at the time of the Spanish conquest. Most of the smaller wrought stones were removed by the Spanish invaders to build homes and cathedrals in the ancient Inca Capital of Cuzco in the valley 1,000 feet below. The existant stones seen in the photo, weighing many 1,000's of tons, were too large for the invaders to easily to remove, and they remain in situe.
