This coin was received along with a confirmed cast Trajan sestertius and has the same surfaces and charicteristics of other cast coins from a dangerous group of cast sestertii. Fake sestertii from this workshop have slipped into auctions and dealer listings.

Nero sestertius, Decvrsio reverse, WRL copy137 viewsThis is a WRL copy of a Nero sestertius with Decvrsio reverse. It has been beaten up in an attempt to appear genuine and to remove the WRL stamps. The WRL obverse stamp is still faintly visible on the bottom left of Nero's neck. The reverse stamp at 1 o'clock, above the right rider's head, is still faintly visible. Both areas plus other areas of the coin have had what looks like the top layer of metal removed.

Compare this coin with the WRL replica here: http://www.forumancientcoins.com/fakes/displayimage.php?album=search&cat=0&pos=7

Nero Sestertius: DECVRSIO473 viewsAn obvious cast. Lettering appears larger (blobbier), grainy surfaces due to bubbles trapped during casting process (not mere pitting), general loss of detail on devices not attrituable to wear, sunken obverse and reverse. In hand, coin would most likely weigh less than it should.
