Leovigild35 viewsIdentified as fake by tejas552:
This coin is currently on offer by a major auction house. It means to be a rare Visigothic tremissis. Here is the description by the auction house:
"Visigoths, Spain, Leovigild (568-586). AV Tremissis (19mm, 0.92g, 6h). Uncertain mint, c. 573-8. Diademed and draped bust r.; cross with pellets at corners on drapery. R/ Victory advancing r., holding palm and wreath; pellet between legs. Cf. MEC 1, 208. Rare, flan slightly irregular, VF"
However, this coin is a modern forgery. It is difficult to spot, but the fabric is wrong. These forgeries come from Spain and they are offered regularly on Ebay. To the non-expert these forgeries are quite dangerous. I have informed the auction house a week ago, but had no response.peterpil19Jan 18, 2018
