- Dear Mr. Parada, Thank you for creating such an
erudite and wonderful site; I spend many hours reading
the stories; they are easy to remember (far easier than
versions in Apollodorus and Hesiod's Theogony and Work
and Days, etc.) and as complete as we can have them. You
have made classical studies that much easier and
engaging. Un verdadero deleite! Bravo! Claudia
- Your website is truly brilliant. You probably get a
lot of these emails, but I would feel almost guilty if I
didn't let you know how much I appreciate the apparent
work evident in its creation! I'm on the site all
the time now, reading from link to link--so much great
info which is all very accessible! Thank you, Ben
January 2005
- I've stumbled across your Greek Mythology Link, and
thought I'd shoot you a note of praise. I'm currently
compiling a website about griffins, and your bestiary
entry was the first succinct but comprehensive selection
of ancient evidence I've seen. I looked at the rest of
the site carefully for the first time- excellent stuff.
Anyway, kudos and Happy New Year, Tim S.
December 2004
- Greetings. The Greek Mythology site is outstanding. I
am currently writing music for a production of Euripides'
"Trojan Women", and am consulting it for background. I
have also used the site in preparing for a children's
theatre class on Greek mythology. I cannot tell you how
useful, thorough, artistic and well organized your site
is. Bravo! Marya H.

- Hello Mr. Parada, I have been on your site and I just
want to start by saying that the site is absolutely
amazing! I am using it for a paper on Artemis and I have
never felt so comfortable using a such a reliable
website. My teacher also loves your website and has it
posted on schoolnotes.com for all her students to use.
Have a nice day and thanx again for the fabulous website.
Ana
- Dear Mr. Parada: I love your web site! I'm so glad I
discovered it. Back in May I went to see the film "Troy."
I was engulfed--Peterson produced a masterpiece. I had to
go see it a second time (actually, it was better the
second time). I went and bought a new copy of the Iliad
at Border's. I was enthralled by it all. Your wonderful
web site brings it all back--alive, exciting, meaningful,
relevant. I'm so glad. There are many mysteries and
secrets buried in the Iliad--surprise: The Trojan war
didn't end over three thousand years ago--it's still
going on! That was my biggest discovery after a period of
intense analysis. Please keep up the good work you're
doing! When doing my analysis I now refer to your website
for info (for example: Hector--true, Apollo warned him
not to face Achilles in one-to-one combat, to stay away,
Hector of course did not heed that advice, and where was
Mars? Hector was left alone to deal with it all Yes, and
that trick Athena played on him--somebody gave her
persmission to do so. See what I mean--by going to your
site I can get background on the relevant question I'm
investigating. Thanks. Sincerely, Tom

- I am writing to you to thank for this magnificent
site. I am a Computer Science student in Havana
University, Cuba but I enjoy reading a lot. I've always
found interesting the greek mythology, the stories of
constellations and other things related to the greek
culture. I think it's one of the best topics a person can
read about. The fact that you put such a link in the
hands of everybody tells a lot about your person. I
sincerely appreciate such thing. The Greek Mythoology
Link has helped me to better understand the relationships
between different actors in the Greek mythology. It has
helped me to better understand a lot of different books
on the subject also. Thank you and your colleagues for
such a great work. Sincerely, A. A.
September 2004
- Dear Mr Parada, I need to thank you for your
incredibly helpful website. During the past few months I
have been reading the "Odyssey" and "Iliad" and have
found myself innumerably consulting the GML to help me
through the texts. As I get deeper and deeper into
the labyrinth of references I have not yet found an
occasion where your site has failed me. The maps
have been extremely helpful (in regard to the Trojan
War), it is quite easy to navigate and the illustrations
and art are relevant and tickle
the imagination. I could go on but I'll instead
avoid be an accomplice to hubris. Thank you for helping
to make my reading experience richer and more complete
and especially for lending legitimacy to internet
research. Sincerely, Tim M.
August 2004
- Dear Mr. Parada: I have just discovered this Web
site. What a grand achievement! Thank you for creating it
and maintaining it. It is helping me to fill in the
gaping holes left by an education in mid-century American
Catholic schools. This is a wonderful example of using
the Internet well. (And I have appropriated a quotation
from one of your pages!) "There are some whose only
reason for inciting war is to use it as a means to
exercise their tyranny over their subjects more easily.
For in times of peace the authority of the assembly, the
dignity of the magistrates, the force of the laws stand
in the way to some extent of the ruler doing what he
likes. But once war is declared then the whole business
of state is subject to the will of a few ... They demand
as much money as they like. Why say more?" [Erasmus of
Rotterdam 1469-1536, Adages IV.i.1] Dorothy

- I just wanted to drop you a note and tell you how
much I love your Greek Mythology site. I've been spending
a lot of time on it lately (maybe too much time!) It's
very in-depth! Mike

at your mythology website. I had searched several
dictionaries but couldn't find out anything. Dennis

- I can't tell you how delighted I am with your work...
Absolutely marvelous... Until now I have relied on
Graves's "The Greek Myths" to satisfy most of my
inquiries, but it can be rather tedious finding specific
information sometimes. Having your work in a searchable
format is a tremendous timesaver. Thank you! Ken

- You have the best site on Greek Mythology on the Web.
Keep it up! -Vero

- Dear Mr. Parada, I offer my sincere appreciation for
your help in furthering my study of Greek
Mythology.Your information has contributed immensely to
my understanding of Greek culture. Thank your for the
time and effort that you spent helping me. Sincerely, Mike F.

- Thank you! Thank you, for the wonderful web site you
have created. I plan to use it NEXT year when I teach,
The Odyssey to 9th grade RSP students at a high school in
Southern California. (I found your site too
late this year.) Sincerely, Cathy L.
- Dear Mr Parada, When I was young, the only
association I had with Greek Mythology was though tv
series or movies. The Gods from Mount Olympus and Hero
from the Trojan War were bit and puzzle. It is very hard
to understand the full stories (history) how one
character was link to another. It may takes "some get use
to it" browsing though all the characters and link them
to a beautiful stories. Especially, when I'm a foreigner
with no knowledge of your histories and culture. But with
3000 years of history and stories, I must say you did a
very good job. Your web site is a window for those who
seek Western civilisation history. Please do continual
your passion which you had done a great job. Because of
the current movie "Troy", I believe lots of people will
be looking for more information from books (Illiad) to
the Internet. It is best to set the record straight as
people may take the movie as it's [...] I will keep
coming back to your web site as I had only read a small
part of a colourful history. One day, I will tell my
children the story of this legend and the Gods from Mount
Olympus. Sincerely, CS Yeo [Malaysia]
- I was researching greek mythology and I came across
your site. I would just like to say your site has lots of
information and makes it easy to research certain people
from that time the way you have it set up, so pretty much
just saying you have a really good site. Ryan M.

- Thank for the Greek Mythology site
I have recently been enjoying the gods and myths.
I try to read a little every morning before I begin work.
I started with a family tree of the gods
Reading about each as I followed the genealogy.
Now your site introduces the sages to me.

- hello! i'd just like to thank you for putting up the
comparison between the real herakles and disney's
hercules! i'd been considering writing an essay about how
poor the film was (i've literally just watched it) but
there was just too much at fault to organise my thoughts
with! asides from this you're website has proved very
useful to me in my research for classical civilisation in
which i've just taken my AS and shall start my A2 course
next year! Thanks again! Lu
- Mr.Carlos Parada, My name is Ryan, and I have
recently acted in a play called "The Love of the
Nightingale" based on a Greek myth. I have partaken in
many productions before, and have always found that the
most convincing performance can be obtained if a greater
understanding of the character you are portraying can be
obtained. I, playing the rather gruesome character of
Tereus, first turned to the library for aid in gathering
information, but was growing impatient with how difficult
it was to find a large amount of information in one spot,
as the myths are very much intertwined. I soon found your
site on Greek mythology, and in turn presented it to my
fellow cast members. We have all benefited greatly from
the way the information is given in a direct fashion,
with a high amount of detail. My director would also like
to thank you for clarifying many aspects of the myth
(such as what is often meant by 'hoopoe') and for giving
us background information on the characters. Keep up the
great work! Cordially, Ryan
- Dear Mr. Parada, In an attempt to discover the
meaning contained in several recent dreams, I have
searched for rather obscure mythological material which
goes beyond the one or two lines usually found
in common mythological dictionaries. Your
website presents such useful information. Thank you
for taking the time to make this available to us. Most
sincerely, Dennis L.

- Dear Carlos, My name is Danielle and I really love
your site on Greek Mythology !! I searched for hours a
day trying to find a place on the internet where I could
simply read and learn more about Greek Mythology without
having to buy an overpriced book by mail or signing a
stupid contract whose only purpose is to scam me out of
lots of cash and fees. Anyway, just stating the obvious.
Thank you for providing a site where I can learn and use
my spare time, without wasting any time at all. Thanks
for helping good minds grow, Danielle
- Undoubtedly one of the best sites in the Internet.
Congratulations, Alexander T.

- Hello Carlos- I have been researching the Trojan War
and lineage of the Trojans when I came to your amazing
web page. The documenatation and insights you provide are
nothing short of brilliant! You have answered many of the
questions I have so I want to thank you for your hard
work and efforts in providing this information online.
Best Regards, Lynn
- carlos, what can I say except you have created a
place of great magnificence! I found my way there this
morning before dawn following my gnosis in search of
comprehending and explicating James Joyce's Finnegans
Wake (in which Vico's cyclical ages of man plays such a
great part). about a year ago I decided I was wise enough
old enough flakey enough to understand this midden heap
work of joyce's and I have become smitten and obsessed
with it. thank you for your splendiferous effort! so much
there resonates with my own desire to praise the goddess
by all ten thousand of her names [...] Suzanne N.

June 2002
- Dear Mr. Carlos Parada. How wonderfull for you to
read all these letters (from Setembre 1997 till June
2002.) I was all over the world. Everything I wanted to
say, is already said by the former writers. I met the
whole world, and all ages, even a Mother reading her
8-years old child. The only thing I will add is: even an
old man of 82 is faboulesly enjoying your site.

- Hi Carlos, Just saw the name (of a journalist who
wrote an article in USA Today, no less!) whose name was
"Alcestis" and my 45 year old brain raced by to freshman
year in high school and Edith Hamilton's "Mythology" but
I couldn't quite retrieve the story. So I did a Google
search and the first link was to your website. I just
have to compliment you on a truly EXTRAORDINARY site!
More than I needed to know...but being the kind of person
who loves trivia and connections and words and
literature, not more than I WANT to know. Kudos! Cheers, Sue F. San Francisco
- Dear Mr. Carlos Parada, I admire your excellent work.
Whenever I go on web, the last site I want to visit is
your site. The pages have been more and more beautiful
since I first found it in 2000. The contents are
extremely useful and interesting. I wonder if I should
point out something imperfect: the scripts in the
biography of Penelope has been unseen for a long time,
and some scripts in other biographies are deformed, for
instance, in "Patroclus". In a word, I hope GML becomes
better and better. Myths are immortal, so is the love for
myths. Best wishes, Valeria
January 2002
- Thank goodness that my partner and I can find your
website again! She and I are writing a novel based on
some of the Greek myths, and we use it several times a
week. Keep up the good work! And don't disappear!

website. It is greatly appriciated. I will recomend it if

- Dear Mr. Parada: I write this brief note to you as a
token of my gratitude for creating and maintaining such a
wonderful web site as The Greek Mythology Link. I
am a medical student in my fourth year of formation at
the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador,
Quito - Ecuador; and one of my passions, besides
classical guitar (which I spend most of my free time
playing), has always been to learn about this magical
series of stories, but I never found a well organized
guide to start my journey, and I didn't want to read the
work of Homer without acquiring some background on the
field first; anyway, I just wanted to thank and
congratulate you for your work, 'cause it has made my
entrance to the Mythology far easier. Yours, Luis
Francisco C.
- Outstanding work! Don't stop, it keeps getting
better. Teresa
October 2001
- I visited the Greek Mythology Site this morning
looking for information on Hermes and the caduceus. I
enjoyed my visit. The site is well linked, and

couldn't have done it without this site. Thank You!

September 2001
- I love your web site. Evan C. E.
- Dear Mr Parada While I appreciate the enormous work
you have put into this site, I am missing a version of
the myths re-told in English for children. I merely have
the version written by Robert Graves. Knowledge by
Western European children of these myths has largely
vanished in the last 40 years as can be seen from the
fact that there is no version available on the German
book market that I consider fit for a child´s
consumption. At best the figure of Hercules is recognised
by children, and maybe Zeus, via Hollywood cartoons, but
e.g. Athena or Dionysos are truly dead for a child born
in 1990. If you are working on such a version or can give
me a link to one, I would be glad to hear from you. Best

Aires - Argentina, Daniel
- Carlos - What an amazing and informative web site you
have created - thanks for all the very useful
information. My ten year old son and I really enjoyed
learning and traveling through the site - it was very fun
for both of us. Sincerely, Nanci W. Saratoga,

- Hello, My name is Nina. I am very much interested in
Greek Mythology. I have always loved it. And since i got
expelled from school in March of 2001 now i have found a
web site full of the things I really love. I am only 16
years old but that does not mean i can not be fascinated
in this kind of thing. Anyways I just wanted to thank you
for giving me something to do and to find out more about
Greek Mythology that I did not know before. Thanks For
Everything, Nina
- I wish I had found this site sooner! It is a
phenomenal resource that is also exciting to explore.
Keep up the fantastic work; there are those of us who
really appreciate it. Thank you, Kaitlindh M.

Comprehensive and fairly complete. Thank you, Thomas

- Dear Mr. Parada, As a teacher of Greek mythology, I
want to thank you for this incredible site! I have found
answers here for questions that students ask that would
have taken me a lifetime to research. Indeed, in just one
visit, I have learned (and been reminded) of so many
interesting facts concerning the intricate relationships
between the gods, heroes, and men of Greek mythology.
Please continue your excellent work. I plan on using this
site as a reference for many projects and assignments in
the future. With Gratitude and Admiration, Donna.

- Excellent web page. I teach high school in California
and have created a power point presentation using you
pictures and a few captions. Your web site is one of the
most easily accessed I have come across (and I do a lot
of web searching). Thank you, Pilar P.
- As an alumnus of Brown ('69) and an amateur classics
enthusiast, I would like to take this opportunity to
offer my sincere congratulations on a job well done.

The curve of the waves, the orientation of

American family who has enjoyed very much going to your

- My name is Kevin M. I am 14 and I live in Ontario
Canada. I have been doing a report on Greek Mythology and
I needed help tracking where a character (Odysseus) went.
I checked your site and i found it to be amazingly
helpful. It provided all the information for me to
properly chart the characters course. It was excellent.
Anyway, I just felt I had to thank you for puting out
such a great and enormously useful web site. Thanks
again! Kevin M.
- Your site is pure delight ! Nadine
- I just wanted to tell you that I enjoy visiting your
web site on Greek Mythology and find it very informative.
I visit the site frequently. Thank you. Helen W.
- Disney's
Hercules. Hi! I came by and discovered your
greek mythology site
[http://hsa.brown.edu/maicar/DisneyHercules.html], one of
the best and most complete I have ever seen on the net:
congratulations!!! And I mean it; being a real
mythomaniac for years has made me very critical and
demanding on the subject... So I was of course totally
upset when I saw what Disney made with Heracles, sorry,
Hercules. The fact that that the animation was nice and
some gag ideas good only made it worse: it could have
been great...but nope. If they changed the storyline that
much because of too much sex, violence, a complicated and
too large a plot, let alone a complex symbolism, they
should have chosen another myth, Perseus for example, who
fits better the old pattern of the "disneyan" hero as a
monster slayer and a princess rescuer! Moreover, talking
about complexity, the result is such a confusing hotch
potch... By the way, in your comparison, you forgot one
point (I know, they are way too numerous): the Muses! The
Disney studios decided that five Muses were far enough;
or maybe the animators complained and the number was
reduced from 9 to 5 (thus reducing the amount of
animation work!) I have no idea. We won't even talk about
the live TV series "Hercules" with Kevin Sorbo, even if
it sticks a little better to the original (at least he is
still the son of Zeus and Alkmene, and Hera keeps on
persecuting him)... Keep on doing such a good job, and
maybe "real" mythology and culture won't totally
disappear off the face of the planet (may the Gods help
you!). Yours, Elie K.
- I found some of the information on this site helpful.
I have a greek mythology name and I wanted to know more
about the character I was named after. This is the only
site that has actually had some sort of background of
Phaedra. Thanks, S. Phaedra
- I was interested in who Psyche was, and now I know.
J.P.
- Thanks for the informative page on minotaurs. I
couldn't believe that my webster's third had no entry for
minotaur. Starting to doubt my 52 year-old memory, i went
to the web and, sure enough, the minotaur is still as i
remembered it from Edith Hamilton. Long live mythos!

- Sir, What a wonderful web-site you have created and
maintained. I found your site while seeking information
for a paper on mentoring. I was interested in the origin
of the word and discovered it is from Mentor in Greek
Mythology. I'm impressed by the depth of your research.
Your passion is evident. I plan on returning to browse
your site again (after my paper is completed) and refresh
my interest in mythology. Thank you. Alice M. N.

Latin/English project, and was skeptical of what I may be
able to find on the internet... I am truly amazed by the
efficiency of your website. Thank You for providing such
an excellent service. A.S.
- Thanks for having great information. This is a great

- This is wonderful! We have been studying mythology in
my class (my first experience with it) and the students
have enjoyed it. After much debate, I decided to show the
Disney movie only after having read information about
Heracles (we chose to primarily use the Greek names) and
then compare the literary version to the movie.
Unfortunately, many of the students had seen the movie,
some numerours times and therefore, their judgement was
clouded and had difficulty distinguishing between the
two. I shared this information with another teacher in
the building and she sent me the
link to your site. This
was a tremendous help. Even though, we had used a graphic
organizer when we discussed the comparisons, the use of
your website made it "come to life". Thanks again, J.T.

- This was a terrific website for my daughter to a
research project in the middle school --the pictures were
great. thanks. B.
- Just wanted to let you know that i found this page
absolutely fantastic. It is well organized and
thoughtout. I wish that other pages could be as straight
forward and to the point as yours is. Thank you!

- Hi I just wanted to say that you did a FANTASTIC job
with the website. I am doing a Mythology Project on
Apollo for Latin class and your website was a big help.
The pictures and the stories for each character was so
detailed and useful. Thank you so much! Jimmy H.
- Thanks for your great site. Robin in New
Zealand.
- I just wanted you to know I am taking a class on
greek mythology and your site was most helpful. Thank you
E.
- I'd like to compliment you on your Greek mythology
website. Well done! Marley.C.
- I'm from texas and in high school, and I just wanted
to let you know that I thought your webpage was really
helpful to me with my project on the greek goddess,
aphrodite. My only suggestion to you would be to add more
information on aphrodite like what other apparent powers
she may have had or what her symbol may have been. Or
even maybe what else they are known for. But over all it
was really good and i appreciate you sharing your
knowledge with the world. S.S.
- I would like to congratulate you on your magnificent
web site depicting all the events of Greek and Roman
Mythology extremely clearly. My personal favorite God is
Aphrodite, the Goddess of love, beauty, and sexual
desire. I like the way the ancient Greek and Roman people
came up with ideas explaining everything from how the sun
goes across the sky, to why spiders weave beautiful
designs in their webs. From, why in the winter and fall
the world's plants die to where people go when they die.
One of my favorite stories is where Athena turns Arachne
into a spider after she weaves a picture making fun of
the Gods. I like it when people can understand the
complexity of this religion. Please, let's never forget
these stories. Beautiful stories, beautiful myths.
Sincerely, Emily F.
- Hello! Your page about Greek Mythology is excellent.

- Interesante trabajo, sobre todo por el estudio
transversal de los temas. Me gustaría saber si
esta traducción se puede encontrar publicada como
libro (es imposible dejar de sentir el gusto por el papel
de toda la vida). Muchísimas gracias por esta
aportación al estudio de la mitología. Un
saludo, M.P.P. [Lcda. en Filología

- I claim no scholarly knowledge or insight to the
Greek Myths. I do however lay claim to a lifelong
fascination with and an enduring love, for them. As I
spend more time in your website I become more and more
like a child in a candy store. After several years of
looking at what the internet has to offer, I believe this
is one of the true treats that I have found. Thank you so
much for this. I will return often! J.R.
- I would like to express to you how much I have
enjoyed your site. It is nothing short of a master piece.
Many thanks. P.
- What a fantastic contribution to society. Your pages
redeem all that is bad with the Internet. C.B.
- I've never studied Greek or Roman mythology; however,
I found you page very exciting and even inviting. I look
forward to considering and contemplating the possible
spiritual implications of such readings. Thank you!

- Hi I just wanted to say that your page is amazing
it's helped me so much. I have written a play about Greek
Mythology basically an of kilter look at the gods.
Because well there pretty screwed up. It also shows some
famous moments in Greek Mythology like the judment of
Paris and the story of Arachne. And all the gods are here
from the major ones to some of the minors gods. The show
is called "War What Is It Good For" and is about a civil
war on Olympus between Ares and Athena (thanks to Eris
and her golden apples) Well anyway your page has been
soooo helpful to me. Keep up the great work. T.
- Your website is wonderful, magical, educational,
inspired. Thank you very much. G.K.

- Hi, The world is a very small place. In 1977, I spent
a year in Jonkoping, and tonight your
http://hsa.brown.edu/~maicar/METAMORPHOSES.html helped me
solve the New York Times crossword puzzle (3 down: She
was changed into a nightingale). You've put together a
fascinating site and an excellent resource. I thought I'd
tell you that, in case the other 27,658 hadn't bothered.
Be well. J.K.L.
- Thank you for this wonderful resource. From a senior
(in age) student of the classics. Jason C. M.
- Hi, I was searching the net for some information on
Hermaphroditus and Greek myth. I came across your page
and it was vivid, imaginative and very engaging. Thank
you for planning it so well. Best wishes, J.T.

- I came upon your site in the course of searching for
information to complete a paper about Greek Mythology for
a class and I have been enthralled ever since. You have
provided such a wealth of knowledge in such a clear and
concise way anybody, even a child, will be able to
understand a great deal of Greek Mythology...I also just
enjoyed having the ability to know one piece of a myth
and easily be able to "click" my way through several
other relevant myths. B.S.S.

- I just want to thank you for this site. It is a much
more then just another site, it is an adventure! Do you

can I purchase a disk containing all the information on
the site? Thank you for doing this! Leslie D.
- My name is Jessi N. Thank you for your web page. It
helped a lot with a mythology report I was working on. It
was the only web page that I could find with usable
information on Daedalus. We had to have at least three
sources and I only had two, and the library had just
closed so I couldn't look there; Anyway thanks a lot.
Jessi
- It helped me a lot on my mythology research paper on
Eros, the Greeks and their relationship with Love. Thank
you!!!!! Jennie
- Mr. Parada, I'm a freelance writer, and in my job I
do a lot of web research. In all my hours of surfing for
information, I have never found such a comprehensive site
as yours on the Trojan War. You made my job much easier,
and even cleared up some questions I had about various
aspects of the war and its many participants! I plan to
include a 5-star reference to your site in my historical
myths column. Again, thank you for taking the time to
break all of this information down into organized,
understandable text. Anita S.
- i just wanted to tell you that im doing my term paper

your lovely map of ancient Greece. We loved the links
that showed us whereabouts the place was on the map...
Thanks so much K. & F.
- just wanted to compliment you on your site

believe this is part of an education sorely lacking these

frequently. so, i passed it on to my group of co-workers
who were very interested, plus i settled an argument. :)

- Hallo, my name's R. and I have used your site to
answer a question on Oedipus. Who was Oedipus' father?
Well your wonderful site solved the problem and I now
know where to find out all about mythology. Thank you!

- Dear Carlos Parada, Thank you so much for your
wonderful site. I am a children's author, working in the
same field as you at present, and your map section has
proved invaluable in clarifying my mind as to where
events take place. I particularly like the way you have
colour coded everything, so that if I am looking for an
obscure mountain, it sticks out very clearly on the
screen. A bonus if deadlines are pressing and time at a
premium...Thank you again, L.
- This is great page! I love Greek mythology and this
gives an excellent idea of what it is -in essence, not
only in text. So, congratulations, and if you ever have
anything else to share about it, please write!!
Melisa
- I just wanted you to know that I am crazy about this

- Hi, I am doing a report on Uranus the planet and i
got some info. from your page on Uranus the god and it
made my report a little more interesting. I am also
reading the Odyssey in english class and it has
interested me in mythology, i mean i don't believe in it
but it is so neat to learn what other people believe and
stuff. Next year I think that i will see if i could take
the mythology class. Thanks for your time, Megan

- Scythia and interest in
myths. Greetings from Leuven in Belgium. Very
interesting site you built there. I'm fascinated by the
Scythians. 4-5 years ago I went to a Scythian arts &
crafts exhibition and it was all so - whow. Plus of
course that several ancient Celtic books mention them as
well - though it is generally put that those stories are
myths. Well, they must come from somwehere. Without going
in to a theological discussion, the Old Thestament is
mostly based on myths as well. So what is the difference
? That one is accepted and the other is not. Better still
all Christian holidays have their roots in pagan times.
People, ancient & modern, need myths - look around.
People need reassurance that everything will come right;
here comes the hero, he/she'll do it. It is sad that
people forget the real heroic myths, for there is a
genealogical structure in them, are often well written
and carry a lot of history in them. You almost (?)
believe it. I did Greek & Latin for 3 years, I hated
the translations we had to do, but I loved the stories.
My interest in Greek mythology never went away with the
red figure on my finals. I have Robert Graves' "Greek
Mythology" -a well edited, beauty of a book. Anyway,
thanks a lot. Nadine.
- Just wanted to express my appreciation for a great
web site. As an individual with a passing interest in
mythology, your site is an excellent source of info that
is structured for easy navigation. Thanks again, Jeff

- Hello, I just wanted to thank you for making such and
out-standing web site on Greek mythology. It was really
helpful making my mythology report on "Hades". Well just
wanted to thank you. Sheri PS: Yes, I will add you
in my Reference page. Thanks a bunch.
- The Other half of Greek
Mythology: I am a student of New College, the
Honors college of the Florida State University system,
and I have been working the past month on an Independent
Study Project dealing with Homosexual, Bisexual, Lesbian,
and Transgender images in Mythology. I've found your site
incredibly useful, but I've also noticed that it tends to
focus much more on the heterosexual lives of the gods and
goddesses of Greek Myth, while giving occasional asides
to their other interests. I understand that history is at
the mercy of the historians, and as many have pointed
out, historians tend to be straight white males, thus
skewing the angles at which stories are presented. Many,
almost all, of the Greek deities I have studied this
month have had male lovers, and the same holds true for
female goddesses and lesbian lovers. Obviously, you are
much more versed in mythology than I, and have access to
a greater span of resources; however, I can't help but
notice a heterosexist skew in the presentation of the
relationships of the Gods. For instance, in my research,
I have found a different angle upon the relationship of
Artemis and Callisto: A wood nymph and beloved of
Artemis. When Zeus, having been rejected by Callisto,
learned of her love for Artemis, he took on the form, or
disguised himself as, Artemis in order to arouse
Callisto's passions. Callisto became pregnant with Zeus'
child, and killed Callisto before learning of how she was
fooled. Having learned what had happened, and being
unable to revive her lover, Artemis, grief-stricken,
turned Callisto into the constellation of the Great Bear.
Obviously, the Greek mind thought of love and
homosexuality in very different terms than modern western
thought, thus many instances we would call rape, would
not have been considered as such. Well, I suppose that's
all I have to say, I could point out more instances, but
I feel like I'd be pointing out what tires are to an
automechanic... so I'll just rest my case there...
Although I will mention a wonderful resource that I have
found invaluable in my studies: Cassel's Encyclopedia of
Queer Myth, Symbol, and Spirit. by Randy P. Conner, David
Hatfiled Sparks, and Mariya Sparks. Thank you for your
time, and thank you very much for your site Michael

- Hi there. I would like to congratulate you on the
wonderful webpage you have, and thank you for all of the
information that it offers. I have it bookmarked as one
of my favorite sites. I used to hate Greek mythology,
when I was in high school. I could not stand to read
Bullfinches Mythology. However, as of late, I've been
more and more interested in Greeky mythos, especially
regarding Hermes. Thank you so very much for the
informative and easily browseable page! Have a great day.
:) Heather
- Dear Carlos: I am most grateful for the mythological
chronology page, having hunted high and low (mostly low)
for just such a thing to no avail. While I appreciate the
disclaimer that it is speculative in nature, it is still
most beneficial as a reference. I am curious however,
that I did not spy Dionysus on your chart and am
interested in the reason behind the omission, if you care
to share it. Once again, I thank you and commend you on
your well-crafted site. Regards, P.
- THANKS for having such a good, workable site. In my
religious study I'd needed some information on Zeus. All
the other web sites seemed to be mythologies about
mythology. Your pages were most helpful and appreciated.
That goes for your format of information as well.
Jerry S.
- Thank you for helping me with my English project!

- Your site is wonderful! I'm a Dutch girl, reading
Homer's Odyssey in Greek, and me and my teacher are
hooked! I'm the only person to take Greek, sadly. The
others don't know what they're missing! I'm sure I will
be able to use this site for my essay's in the future.
Love, Maartje S.
- Your site is simply wonderful!!! I'm from Holland and

- Some Thoughts on the
Odyssey. Carlos, When I was in college I had
to read The Odyssey, I hated it because I thought the
teacher made Penelope sound like such a drip. Penelope
was always crying and she didn't even recognize the man
she had a baby with. Just this fall I re read The
Odyssey. I think Penelope recognizes her husband almost
immediately. Let me tell you why I think this... Penelope
is intrigued by the stranger because he may have news of
her husband. However, I think she realizes he may be
Odysseus when, after receiving a beating, the beggar does
not leave. A beggar would just have gone elsewhere. She
wants to see the stranger immediately and is disappointed
when Eumaeus tells her to wait until night fall. When she
sees the beggar that night ,I think she recognizes him as
Odysseus right away. However, She must not give him away
to the maids in the hall because they will tell the
suitors. When Penelope tells the beggar the dream about
the geese and the two gates, she is telling her husband
that she fears the suitors will kill him. She also solves
his problem on how he can kill the suitors by coming up
with the test of the bow. The only way one man may kill
many is with a bow. Penelope tells the beggar that she is
going upstairs to sleep alone and that he must sleep in
the hall. Why would she tell a beggar this? That night
she prays to Artemis to kill her because she thinks the
suitors will kill Odysseus and her son. Like Andromache,
she must marry the killer and have children by him. When
the maid tells her the suitors are dead, Penelope is
disbelieving because the odds were so much in the suitors
favor. Penelope is also wondering what kind of man
Odysseus has become after being gone for so long. This is
why she tells him that she doesn't know who he is.
Penelope tells the maid to put the bed in the hall way.
He thinks "someone" has cut the bed out if its place.
This is where he becomes hurt and angry thinking some man
has been in the room. Had Odysseus been Agamemnon, he
probably would have killed her at this point. This is
probably why some of the myth writers say Penelope had an
affair with one of the suitors. Thank for letting me
share my thoughts. Anna L.
- Scylla,
sea-monster daughter of Crateis may be an immortal. Circe
in Book 12 of the Odyssey describes Scylla as a
'deathless fiend', a divine monster beyond Odysseus'
ability to slay. Lycophron (45) claims that Heracles slew
Scylla but that Phorcys revived her in a magical rite.
Scylla's immortality was shared by two Gorgon sisters but
siblings Medusa and Echidna were not. Another sister, the
nymph Thoosa was probabley merely long-lived since her
child Polyphemus was definitely mortal. Divine parentage
evidently did not guarantee immortality for the
off-spring. Gordon
- Dear Carlos, I am teaching Oedipus for the first time
to a group of Freshman Honors English students. I
happened upon your website-I was very impressed and want
to thank you for it. I enjoyed the map of the underworld,
as well as the rest of the visuals. Although my students
are not currently at college level, I'm sure they will
also be interested. Thanks. Colleen
- Dear Carlos, Thanks so much for this incredible site
you've put up. I found it tonight when I wanted to
include Zeus's apparition to Semele in an email to a
friend of mine, but I couldn't remember her name. Within
three minutes of hitting your site I had it. Thanks
again. Sincerely, Bill T.
- Thank you very kindly for your site on Greek
Mythology. You have saved my ass for the upcoming
mid-term! -Mike F.
- Mr. Parada: Your greek mythology website is
excellent. I had been looking for tools to teach my
nephew greek mythology. Previously, only the Edith
Hamilton book had been remotely interesting for him. But
your combination of images, family trees and anecdotes
has been particularly helpful and informative and
entertaining! Thanks Steve L.
- Hello, I'm navigating on your site, and just want to
congratulate you for such an amazing, beautiful and rich
in information work ! I'll recomend it for everybody.

- I must say this is one of the best sites for
mythology I have ever encountered. Please keep up the
good work. Sharon C. Ohio Dominican College.
- To: Carlos Parada. Dear sir, My name is Filipe F.,
and I'm a portuguese student of History, with a very
particular passion on Classic Greece history. I had found
your page on the internet, while doing some research on
the Minoician culture, and was very well impressed by it.
Your page is probably the best place for Greek mithology
and history research on the net. It ceartainly is the
best I had ever seen (and I had seen a lot of them).
It´s very well organized and very complete, and it
looks like you had seek the best sources on the subject
to make it. Now-a-days there are lots of wrong
information on this subjects, and it´s good that
someone could filter some historical autor's garbage, and
built a truthfull and trustfull document such as your
page. I had, obviously haded it to my favourites, and I
believe I will visit it on many other occasions. Here I
send you my congratullations for your work, and the
request for you to keep on doing it. My best regards Filipe F. [Portugal]
- I am so happy that I found this Greek Mythology
Link. I have been searching everywhere to find

- Greetings! Although you have bits and pieces about
Chiron the Centaur throughout the site, he doesn't appear
to have his own entry. I would like to see this remedied,
if possible. Thanks, Chris F.
- i am an enthusiastic fan of the greek mythology
link. it has no equal as an informational source in
my 25 years of experience as a devoted fan of classical
myth. i believe the centaur Cheiron is deserving of an
expanded stand-alone entry. surely this teacher of heroes
merits this? thank you for any consideration of my
suggestion.Your's sincerely Gordon.
- Thank you for having such a nice website. It helped a
lot with my report on the greek God Apollo.
Brandon
- Hello. I just wanted to thank you for making your
neat site. I must've searched the ENTIRE Internet for
something about Hypnos, my favorite god. Then, I saw the
light. Emanating beatufully from a site called, The
Greek Mythology Link. lorwd.
- Dear Sir, being new on the internet and interested as
I am in greek mythology I discovered your site navigating
yahoo. I must say how impressed I am about this work.
Thank you very much and keep up the good work. For me
this is an extraordinary example of the added value of
internet. Kind regards Tony
- this IS the best greek mythology site that i have
ever seen. thank you, angelica h.
- Sir: I am reading the Odyssey to my eight year old
daughter, and after sending her to bed I found your web
site tonight. I am very impressed. The Greek myths have
been a favorite of mine since I was a child, and I want
my children to be able to experience the thrill that
comes from studying them. I am sure that we will be
returning to this site often. I thank you for a job well
done, a true work of art in it's own right. Sincerely,
Gene S. K., M.D.
- Hello, My name is Renee and I just wanted to say
thank you for having such a great site. Also I used a lot
of the information on my Greek report. This web site was
the main reason I got an A+ along with a lot of my other
friends who used your site. R.
- Thank you for this most beautiful site. I generally
get very impatient when downloading a site with a lot of
graphics which generally don't add to the content, but
the graphics and pictures on your site make me understand
my deep down emotional response to the ancient Greek
world. Is there a statue or picture of Priam kissing
Achilles' hands? I think this scene in ancient Greek
literature is the reason why Homer will eventually win
out over Plato's Republic. Celeste W.
- I'd like to thank you for your work. I recently
assigned my 10th and 11th grade students a brief research
task, investigating the mythological figures and places
alluded to in Antigone. Yours was one of the sites I
suggested to my students, and it was one often cited in
their papers. Although I had earlier skimmed through
aspects of GML, I found myself, this evening, looking
more deeply into it. I am extremely impressed, and am
grateful for the resource. Yours truly, Kathryn E.

- Interesting web site. I believe to a certain degree
in Greek mythology. I believe this civilization actually
did exist prior to the great Flood of Noah. There is some
indication in the Bible of sexual intercourse between
fallen angels and the daughters of Adam that produced the
"mighty men of old". These half-breeds were known as the
nephilim and had superior size, strength and were
apparently advanced in knowledge. They were always male.
God destroyed these people in the Flood but preserved
Noah and his family to carry on the human race. The Bible
says that in the days of Noah before the great Flood, the
earth was full of violence and wickedness. What could
more perfectly describe the constant fighting, brutality,
and killing that occurred during the era of the "gods"?
The remembrance and accuracy of the events of that
violent civilization began to fade as the centuries
disappeared into the mist. Several websites you might
want to look into concerning the nephilim are listed
below. http://members.tripod.com/Khyron_4/nephilim.html,
http://www.tribnews.net/text/nephilim.html,

Sincerely, Al K.
- Just wanted to say thanks for having such a great
site. I have always been interested in Greek mythology
and this brings it straight to me, and shows me all the
connections. It has been very informative and sent me on
my way to evolving a bit :) Thanks again! April
- You may be amused, or perhaps horrified, to know that
your site was a major research tool for the following:

- Nice job! The way your site is arranged makes it very
easy to search for exact topics. I just have two comments
I'd like to put to you, just for the heck of it. The
first is that the Garden of the Hesperides most likely
was not on African soil (under your heading, Atlas...
Atlas in the far west). Several sources from classical
Greece support this claim. It was instead, "beyond the
fabulous stream of the ocean...". Try somewhere further
west than Africa, or else maybe do not cite a modern
location at all... what do you think? I was also
surprised when I looked under "Atlantis" that the second
sentence of your initial description describes the
inhabitants as a "spiritually ugly" race. This is at
best, an opinion, and depending on your point of view,
inaccurate. The people of Atlantis were merely the
victims of a great natural catastrophe. You are attaching
an element of wickedness (as did Plato) that more likely
was just unluckiness. A case of being in the wrong place
at the wrong time! Otherwise, I commend you! A most
enjoyable discovery! Sincerely, Monique P.
- I am teaching The Odyssey to ninth graders in
Oglethorpe County, Georgia and got on-line for some
lesson plan ideas...your page was so helpful and
informative that I think I can even direct them to look
at it for their own extra research. Thanks a lot! Anna

- Dear Sir or Madam or group, You have provided a
wonderful site for us who need to keep learning. You have
done a marvelous job of site design and making the
information comprehensive and accessible. Keep it up. The
myths need a home on the web. With sincere thanks,
Steve S.
- Hey, GREAT site. Very helpful & amusing. Vipra
- I just wanted to thank you for the mythology info; It

- Dear Mr. Parada, Thank you very much for your help in
the task of finding a name for our company. The materials
and links provided by you will undoubtedly contain our
name. The search begins! Thanks again, John K.
- Excellent site. Well put together. Keep at it. Hope
that we can correspond. I'm building a site myself and
would be honored if I could consult with you. La vita e
bella, Erik
Enhorabuena. Carmen P. [Valencia, España]
- i like your site on greek mythology (hera) it was
kool. i learned a lot. Debbie
- Another suitable link might be found at
http://darkwing.uoregon.edu/~joelja/iliad.html.
I am a world history teacher and found both your site and
the other to be helpful in teaching Greek history. A link
between the two might be good. Rachel K. H.
- I would like to thank you for such a great website,
you helped me find information that over 20 other
mythology sites didn't have. Without this site my
presentation would not nearly have been what it was.
Thanks again. Ron R.
- Agree with June, 1999 feedback. Love the site, wish
there were a pronounciation guide for those lovely Greek
names. Maybe even a link from each syllabization to an
.au file featuring a sexy Greek voice... Cheers, Peter

- Just wanted to thank you for the site on muses--it
was exactly what i needed! O.

- I generally shy away from the fragment: "ought to
be". . .but this site is an example of what the web ought
to be. B. W. C. Williams

- Hi, I saw with pleasure your list over images of
greek mythology. Great work! I was extremely happy when I
saw a statue of Hercules in the garden of hesperides by
Rudolph Tegner. I am in the board which tries to protect
his work from destruction and I can inform you that there
is a homepage with photos of statues from greek
mythology. The adress for the homepage is:
www.rudolphtegner.dk (click on VÆRKER, you will see
a lot of text with names of the sculptures. Click on the
name and you will see the statue). He is very much
inspired by greek mythology. Kind regards Torsten

- Thanks for the nicely done and easy-to-follow website
on mythology. This is one of those topics that I should
know lots about but never feel any security in
discussing. As a junior high teacher (teaching ages 12 -
14), one of my summer goals was/is to get myself more
up-to-speed on mythology. So often the references send me
hunting. Thanks for your work and obvious love of this
subject. Much appreciated. Mary Ellen, San Diego,
CA

- Whoever you are, I'm just letting you know that your
"Greek Mythology Link" is incredible. Thanks SOO
much. Amanda E.!
- I really like the page, but did have a suggestion to
help. I'm constantly looking for the correct
pronounciations of the names and it's be great if there
was just a pronounciation by each name like in a
dictionary so that readers can sound it out and have a
good idea about the names. Other than that I really like
the detail of explanation that the page has and it's a
permanant bookmark for me. R.C.

- HI! I'm a sixth grader in Connecticut. My Social
Studies class is studying ancient Greece, and so we were
assigned a report on a Greek Gods/Goddesses/Heros. I was
having a lot of trouble finding information on my goddess
(Artemis), and so was one of my friends, who is studying
Aphrodite. One of my peers whom is researching Achilles
told me about this page, and my friend and I are really
thankful that you have put this page on the Internet!
Thanks a lot! H.N.W.
