After Tryphon evicted Demetrius from Antioch, probably in the summer of 143 B.C., Antiochus VI gained the allegiance of most of the Seleucid domain, including Judaea. Antiochus IV died two years later. He was probably assassinated under orders from Tryphon, who then made himself king.
