Seleukid Kingdom, Antiochus III the Great, c. 223 - 187 B.C.
|Seleucid| |Kingdom|, |Seleukid| |Kingdom,| |Antiochus| |III| |the| |Great,| |c.| |223| |-| |187| |B.C.|, Alexander was first in Ecbatana after the battle at Gaugamela, when he captured Darius' gold. He returned in the autumn of 324, with plans for a three month drinking binge and entertainment provided by 3000 actors and artists brought from Greece. But his plan was interrupted. Alexander's closest companion and suspected lover, Hephaestion, continued to party and drink despite a fever. While his doctor, Glaucus, was at the theater, Hephaestion ate a fowl and drank a large draught of wine. He quickly fell ill and died. Alexander was so upset that he ordered the tails and manes of all the horses be cut and crucified the doctor.
