Bizya, Thrace, 238 - 244 A.D.
|Gordian| |III|, |Bizya,| |Thrace,| |238| |-| |244| |A.D.|, This type and very similar, also rare, coins issued by Byzantium and Perinthus have traditionally been dated 1st century B.C. to 1st century A.D. On this coin, however, Hermes appears to have the features of Gordian III. On an example of the type from Byzantium (CNG e-auction 252, lot 252), Hermes appears to have the features of Hadrian.

Jurukova Bizye p. 79 and pl. 28, 176 (dated 175 - 200 A.D.), aVF, Bizya (Vize, Turkey) mint, weight 2.210g, maximum diameter 15.8mm, die axis 0o, 238 - 244 A.D.; obverse Hermes draped bust right wearing petasos, with the features of Gordian III; reverse BIZY-HNΩN, winged kerykeion; extremely rare; SOLD
