Laranda, Lycaonia, c. 324 - 323 B.C.
|Other| |Anatolia|, |Laranda,| |Lycaonia,| |c.| |324| |-| |323| |B.C.|, Laranda was attacked and destroyed by Perdiccas in 322 B.C. This coin, which was probably minted for the city's defense, is very similar to the referenced coins. Those coins have the name of the city, ΛAPAN, above a similar wolf forepart and are on similar slightly squared flans. This coin has only Λ, which surely stands for Laranda.
GA16449. Silver hemiobol, apparently unpublished, cf. Klein 652 and SNG BnF 2311, F, Laranda (Karaman, Turkey) mint, weight 0.486g, maximum diameter 9.5mm, die axis 180o, c. 480 - 322 B.C.; obverse crude head (Baal?) left; reverse wolf forepart right, Λ above; very rare; SOLD
