Antoninus Pius, August 138 - 7 March 161 A.D.
When the young heir Aelius suddenly died on 1 January 138 A.D., the aged Hadrian selected Antoninus, a distinguished senator, as the new heir. Since Antoninus was already 52-year-old, Hadrian also selected heirs for Antoninus himself: his 17-year-old nephew Marcus Aurelius and the 8-year-old son of the late Aelius, Lucius Verus.RS84421.
